Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The strongest winds will be along the southern Blue Ridge. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

In west central Virginia, City of Roanoke, City of Salem and Roanoke. * WHEN...Until 1115 PM EDT Friday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 513 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain is exiting the area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain fell earlier today, resulting in areas of flooding across Roanoke and Craig Counties. Runoff will continue to collect in creeks and streams through the evening, and may cause additional flooding of roads. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Back Creek, Bee Branch and Barbours Creek. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Roanoke, Salem, Vinton, New Castle, Catawba, Sinking Creek and Bent Mountain. - This includes the following locations... Roanoke River At Roanoke affecting City of Roanoke, Roanoke and City of Salem independent cities. For the Roanoke River at Roanoke, Moderate flooding is now forecast. * WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Roanoke River at Roanoke. * WHEN...Until tomorrow evening. * IMPACTS...At 11.0 feet, Wiley Drive at the railroad underpass near Crystal Springs Avenue is flooded. At 14.0 feet, Jefferson Street at Belleview Avenue near Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital begins to flood. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 3:20 PM EDT Friday the stage was 11.6 feet. - Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 3:20 PM EDT Friday was 11.6 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 12.6 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow morning. - Flood stage is 10.0 feet. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Also, avoid walking near riverbanks as the ground may be slippery and the water current swift, and can easily carry a person away. Additional information is available at www.weather.gov.
